My Favorite Children's Book
My favorite book growing up, or rather my favorite series of books, was the Nancy Drew mysteries. I have always enjoyed a good conundrum, and Nancy had a lot of them. Whether she sought out a problem directly or was thrown into one unexpectedly there was always something going on. I loved that she was smart and independent. Her dad was a lawyer, which is where she got her knack for investigating. Her friends George and Bess were fun and always added a little drama to the story.George was my favorite, mainly because her name was George. Nancy Drew books were always exciting to read, keeping me on the edge of my seat until the very last page and during my summers I would read several a week. I remember often reading them at night before bed in the dark to add a little extra spook in the story. My favorite part was playing detective along with her. I would analyze the story both as a character and as a reader trying to decide who committed each of the various crimes. When a character would act suspicious I would immediately add them to my suspect list, but if they were caught too early, say page 53 of a 107 page book, I would dub them innocent right away. And now, although I've grown up and those stories no longer keep me guessing enough to peak my interest I will always have a soft spot for Nancy Drew and her crazy, mysterious life.
